On my way out one morning, I opened the door and suddenly realized that autumn had arrived with all its splendor and glory. I heard a crackling sound as a little breeze swept through the yellow, red, and purple leaves.
I began to dream up ideas for my homes fall decorations. I headed over to Pinterest to get some inspiration. I came across the words “fall in love with Jesus”. And that birthed the theme that would take center stage in my homes fall decorations.
I came across a fall themed mason jar letter banner. This was the perfect way to display the words “fall for Jesus”, a shorter version of “fall in love with Jesus”. I found a crate outside of my church. I took one of the side panels to use as the frame that would display my banner. I hung the words on the wood panel with clothespins. I added a decorative flower garland I bought at The Christmas Tree Shop. On each side of the frame, I placed two mason jar printables that worked with the theme. I repurpose my own mason jars to put sunflowers, wheat bunches, and candy corn. To finish the buffet decorations I added two white pumpkins. When everything came together I was very excited that this year my fall decoration would be centered on God.
On the outside of our home, I was inspired by what you would see at a farm in the fall. At Stew Leonard’s I purchased corn stalk, a scarecrow, pumpkins, and flowers. I wanted to surprise my boys so I waited until they were asleep to decorate. Despite doing everything in the dark it turned out beautifully and the boys loved it.
For October I designated a small section for a Halloween display for the boys. I’m not about doing things on the scary side because I want to bring out the fun side of Halloween. I placed a decorative tree inside an apple basket and added some fake fall leaves. My boys then decorated the tree with little ornaments. I also placed a plastic jack-o’-lantern with some candy corn. Bad idea, I had to remove it because my boys kept eating it.
I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at my fall decorating projects. Would love to hear about your fall decorations. Please share in the comments below and don’t forget to subscribe to my mailing list.
Growing up celebrating Halloween was not embraced in my home. Also living in NYC in the 80’s it was not really safe to be out on Halloween day. In recent year with my boys I have begun to discover and develop ways to bring Halloween fun into our home. I have incorporated a Biblical approach to our Halloween celebration. I want my boys to see that although this holiday focuses on darker things that God is the light that will always shine.
We love opening our home to our neighbors with children on Halloween for treats. My boys get involved in the crafts that we will use to decorate our home.
At home I had many supplies on hand for my Halloween crafts and decorations. I did purchase pumpkin and halloween tags to hang on the halloween tree from Target.
I found this candy corn poem on Pinterest with a cute message that I could share with my boys and neighbors. I downloaded a candy corn clip art to add the poem to a candy jar. I also made tags to go on the candy bags.
Everything I do has to have a baking element. For a sweet dessert I made Halloween cookie pops and mini vanilla cupcakes. With so many children with food allergies I wanted to attempt to make my recipes nut free, dairy free and egg free. The cookies I have made a few times before from “the novice house wife”. The cupcakes on the other hard I recipe tested and they came out delicious.
