I am obsessed with cookbooks so I couldn’t wait until I got the opportunity to test out some recipes from Chrissy Teigen’s first cookbook Cravings. The cookbook has been out for a while but busy motherhood got the best of me, but finally, I was able to get my hands on it.
At first sight, this cookbook is true to its title “Cravings“. Each page and photograph is mouthwatering. I especially love the picture of Chrissy and John indulging in some of the dishes. The book covers 10 sections from breakfast to supper. My favorite is the “things that intimidate people but shouldn’t”. The introduction sets a nice tone for the rest of the book giving insight on Chrissy’s passion for food and cooking. I really like that each recipe has a brief story behind the dish.
I enlisted the help of my brother Jason and sister-in-law Laura. They are the coolest most beautiful NYC couple I know. Also, they remind me of Chrissy and John. For this cooking adventure, I selected three recipes that complemented each other and that I knew Jason and Laura would enjoy. Our starter course was Caprese Salad with Crispy Prosciutto. Burrata cheese takes center stage in this dish and the crispy prosciutto elevates this dish to another level. The main course is Lemony Arugula Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe. This dish is so fresh it just takes me back to my summer in Italy back in 2003. To complete this meal we made the Armadillo Cheesy Garlic Bread. I seriously could just live on this dish for the rest of my life. All three recipes were simple to follow and delicious. I know for sure that they will become a staple in my home. I can’t wait to try out more recipes from Cravings in the days to come.
Jason and Laura had a lot of fun pretending to be Chrissy and John. Head over to Simply Made Fancy’s YouTube channel for an inside look at their cooking adventure. After the meal was completed my wonderful husband who was behind the camera joined us to eat. As a personal touch, I placed valentines postcards on each place setting so each couple could take time to write each other a love note.
I find it really romantic when a couple cooks together. Cooking uses all five sense and communicates love. So instead of going to a restaurant on your next date night get a copy of Cravings and hit the kitchen with your special someone.
Happy cooking!
What cookbook would you like to see me review next?
Valentine’s day special, .5 cent kisses from three of the cutest bachelors. I created a kissing booth to take pictures of my boys to use for Valentine’s day cards to send out to our family and close friends.
I wanted to capture each of the boys’ unique personalities. I found tee shirts at Oshkosh that were perfect in describing each of the boys. Dylan, 10 months old, is my rock star. He loves to dance and can’t contain himself when he hears a beat. Blake, 3 years old, is my artist. He is fun and energic, but finds peace when he sits to paint. Logan, 5 years old, is my superhero. His middle name is Kent after Superman. He is super helpful and always ready to come to the rescue.
The boys really enjoy doing the photo shoot. At our home, a photo shoot is a regular occurrence since my husband Maurice is a wonderful photographer. The boys are use to getting their pictures taken. They actually really like it and think it’s a game.
The kissing booth I repurposed from the stand Maurice made a few months back. He used two old wine boxes that his dad had and found wooden boards to put everything together.
I am so blessed to have my three boys. They each have their own personality and gifting. It’s not easy being a mom of three very different human beings. Maurice and I have truly made it a point to celebrate each of their unique personalities. We take time to plan out activities that each of them would enjoy. Dylan is still very young but each day we play music and have a dance party. Blake and I share a love for art so each week we sit to paint together. Logan enjoys helping out in the kitchen when I bake. Maurice sets-up individual monthly quality time activities with each of the boys. Usually, a fun activity that caters to each boys passion.
Most importantly, Maurice and I are committed to raising our boys to love God. Proverbs 22: 6 is a verse we hold onto each day. “Train up a Child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” We pray at each meal time and before bedtime. We make sure to attend church services each Sunday. We take time to read to them from their children’s bible and ask them questions about what we read. We strive to speak words that will inspire them and that will help them grow into men of integrity.
Hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s day,
I would love to hear from you. Please share your thoughts in the comments section and don’t forget to get your Valentines Day Chocolates!
Nothing better then a long weekend to celebrate love and family. This year’s Valentine’s Day fell around the President’s holiday break so my family was able to spend time together.
Giving someone a Valentine’s Day card is the best way to show your love and it’s something they can keep forever. I had my boys make cards for our friends and family. Blake the youngest loves to paint, I think I may have my own little artist in the making. Logan colored a sheet of paper and I made note cards out of them to go with little gifts he picked out for his classmates.
To capture the spirit of Valentine’s Day Maurice and I set up a makeshift photo shoot in our home. I wanted to take pictures of my boys to send to our close friends and family. A lot of bribing took place to ensure the boys cooperated so Maurice could get some nice pictures.
This year Blake helped me make a heart-shaped pizza. It was messy but sharing this time with him was special and he had fun.
Every Valentine’s Day I make a tiramisu cake in the shape of a heart. I have been making it since Maurice and I got married. I make a basic yellow cake, I don’t use ladyfingers. See the recipe below.

I’m not the type of girl that wants a big fuzz for Valentine’s Day. Maurice and I go on nice dinner dates often so going out on Valentine’s Day is not a big deal. We like cooking a gourmet meal together, sit in peace and quiet after the boys go to bed. On the menu: ribeye steak seasoned with McCormick, asparagus, garlic baby potatoes, stuff clams, and to complete the meal pink champaign.
Valentine’s Day for me is not about romance, but about letting my family and friends know how much I love them. A homemade or handmade gift is a wonderful way to let someone know how much you care. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner a bouquet of rose cupcakes is a perfect gift for my loved ones.
