Thanksgiving Tree

Thanksgiving is what America is all about. Immigrants coming to a foreign land, surviving adversity and making new friends. Today with all the preparing for the Thanksgiving Day feast we can forget the reason for the holiday. It’s important this time of year to take the opportunity to give thanks.

Since 2015 our family has incorporated a thanksgiving tree. It is our way to remember all the blessings we have in our lives. The tree helps us count down the days until Thanksgiving Day in a meaningful way. It also makes a beautiful addition to our homes holiday decorations.

Each year we come together as a family and take time to talk about all the things we are thankful for. We then write or color what we are thankful. We hang them on the tree branches to reflect on all month long. It is always fun to hear from our boys what they are thankful for, donuts, Lego, and batman seem to always make it on the tree. We also leave some blank for our friends and family to share what they are thankful for.

Thanks to a neighbor who got rid of two potted fake bare trees years ago. It made it possible for me to begin our family’s thanksgiving tree tradition. I recommend if you find one you like to buy it. I get a lot of use out of my trees during the year. I found a similar tree on Amazon you may like. If you don’t have a tree you can gather branches outside and place them in a container.

The most important part of a thanksgiving tree is write what you are thankful for.  I cutout leaf shapes, then hole punch the stem and add a string. You can customize your tree any way you want to match your style and decor. I cutout leaves on news print then copied them on card stock.

Creating a thanksgiving tree in your home set an atmosphere of gratitude. Gratitude fuels the heart and brings joy.
